Hexed

A mobile app centered around finding & sending hex color codes.

Hexed is a mobile application designed around the concept of hex color codes, offering users a seamless and intuitive way to extract and manage colors from images. By simply taking a picture, users can capture colors and instantly view their corresponding hex codes. These codes can then be sent directly to the user's email for easy integration into CSS stylesheets or Adobe Suite projects.

In addition to color extraction, Hexed allows users to create custom color palettes from images, with the ability to add or remove colors as needed. The app also offers a variety of gradient creation tools, enabling users to generate linear, radial, angular, or diamond gradients directly from their palettes.

With an emphasis on simplicity and efficiency, Hexed minimizes the number of steps required to achieve powerful results, all while maintaining a visually satisfying and user-friendly experience

Research

The research process for Hexed began with a thorough task analysis of competitive applications focused on color tools for designers and artists. We conducted 15-minute, one-on-one interviews with five creatives.

The objective of these interviews was to gain insights into what features they would find most beneficial in an app centered around hex codes, as well as to understand their personal workflows and challenges when implementing colors in their design work.

To guide these interviews, we developed a framework of 10 key questions aimed at uncovering valuable feedback regarding user needs and pain points.

“Is there a particular format or value that would help you implement color seamlessly into your workflow?”

”Where do you get inspiration for the colors that you utilize in your work?”

“Are there any difficulties you face in finding color palettes?"
